PUBLISHED POETRY
poems created by laura swaringen, inspired by others
I am a voice
that you don't notice
until it's silent
I am your alarm clock
on an early spring day
I have a perspective on the world
that most don't see
I may be small
but I am tall
I am the bird outside your window
Who Am I?
Home
I love being home
the silence
the relaxation
the comfy couch
the free food
It's so nice to have
a break.
I don't like being home
the constant questions
the boredom
the sunken couch
the lack of food
I need
a break.
I see the campus
where I have grown.
I hear my kettle
preparing my morning sip of warmth.
I smell the unique scent
of my home away from home.
I feel the comfort of
my own small-scale abode.
I touch the window
before I say goodbye.
I think I'm going to miss Boone
more than I'll ever realize.
BOONE
Clear blue skies above
Taking deep breaths in and out
Trying to find peace

CARDBOARD BOX
So much depends
upon
a cardboard box
loaded with personal possessions.
Going from one home
to a home to be
carrying comfort and familiarity
into something unexplored
